Absolute nonsense.

These arguments for online chess vacation and auto-vacation have been mentioned before in this very topic:

  • Automatic vacation is a good feature for people who have lives outside of this site. You can't foresee all possible events that will lead to you not being available to play.
  • When starting a game, you agree to certain rules. One of them being a player can go on vacation at any time. If you don't want to agree to this rule, don't play.
  • It shouldn't bother you this much that people stall. Perhaps you should take a break and find another hobby or seek professional help.

Of course, this has nothing to do with what the original poster was talking about. He was talking about live chess when forced checkmate/losing material is obvious to the losing party and they stall hoping that the winning party will disconnect (disconnect = lose) due to losing patience. This is something that I believe most people would agree is bad behavior.

by starting the game you atuomatically agree on that time, they have the right to run it down.

I personally think it's rude though

Interpretation of the letter of the law as being the same thing as ethical behaviour is a rampant problem among the unethical....

That being said, there are any number of legitimate reasons that someone might need to run their time down (pizza guy or some other emergency as examples) -- wouldn't you feel like a heel if you berated someone for stalling while they were actually on the ground getting CPR....  That said, it's usually pretty obvious, though, when it's done out of spite or some hope that they will win the game due to a disconnect.  I will generally not say anything, as I have to give my opponent the benefit of the doubt, but I will also not play the person again without some pretty convincing explanation from them.

The bottom line is that you agreed to the terms of the game, and you should be fully prepared to spend the full amount of agreed to time on that game for any reason -- be it legitimate or otherwise.

i agree. Some people have lives outside of chess. So live and let live.

It's especially rude in live chess, I could care less, with the exception of tournaments, in turn based.

Yeah real problems with those loosers. Goin' around, making things less tight.

Ah the cunning linguist to add comic relief to all of the mostly mundane, pointless topics that people complain about. "Let it go peeps" - chicken soup for the chess players soul. And yes I may be bitter today but got it all out :)

instead of complaing about a-hole players, let's go shovel snow!

Yes just a game, but what is irritating is when you're in a tournament, you're one move from mating your opponent so he stalls the match for a day and a half and when he gets down to a half hour left on his clock, he decides to use some of his vacation time to further prolong the inevitable.

Yeah.  They should start a forum so we can indentify these cats like the red scare or something lol

There is no reason to get upset when your opponent stalls or takes a vacation when you have a MATE in 1 or even 2 or 3.

Let the Chess.Com computer make your moves for you SO YOUR OPPONENT GETS CHECKMATED EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT EVEN LOGGED IN.

While waiting for your opponent to move, just go and make CONDITIONAL MOVES that lead to checkmate. Cover all possible replies in your conditional moves.

That way you can turn the tables on your opponent  who will be so frustrated and greatly annoyed that he got checkmated even when you are not logged in.

I love the conditional moves. I use it alot, but dont agree with letting the chess.com comp. make moves for you.

ive played my share of games against sore losers.  but what really gets me is the sore winners.  ive played a few games, that ive lost, respectively.  im not a sore loser, i try to learn from my mistakes.   but these guys insist on sending me rude insulting comments, even threats on my family, after they win.  i really dont get it.  on the other hand ive had the privlige of playing some respectible players, win or loose.  its a game, lets keep it on the board.

Overcompensation. These comments are coming from people who lack confirmation for their achievements, or simply lack achievements.

If that's true about the threats to fam. thats outrageous. And after a win. Just imagine if they would of lost.

TheGrobe

Listen, a little trash talk is incredibly rude but tolerable, but when someone starts threatening people, or worse, their family, that's downright inexcusable, and arguably prosecutable.  Report anyone who makes such a threat post-haste.

IF YOUR HOLDING OUT TO SCHEDULE SOME OTHER GAMES,BECAUSE OF TIME YOU WOULD LIKE CLEAR THE BOARD TO START YOUR NEW GAMES.....

While you wait, you could practise bringing your spelling up to a third grade standard.

When you start the game, you agree to the time constraints.  If they aren't to your liking, don't start the game.  If your opponent is abusing the vacation time, you can report it.

Or you can waste your time posting stupid complaints in the forum about something that nobody has any control over except for you.  Correspondence chess is not a game for the impatient.

I believe it's 'practice' not practise ... so much for your spell check... and your third grade education!

ozzie_c_cobblepot
