I know I rarely say anything serious in these forums, but I'da thought Tonydal, Reb an' TheGrobe would all do a pretty good job - an' they always takes an active interest in what's goin' on

WHAT? How do you mean there is no free T-shirts? How is this going to work? What are moderators "powers" that separate him form rest of chess.com mortals? Who would supervise them? Why is sky blue?....

Why is sky blue?....
It's actually cyan.
Blasphemer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is not insult: that is such a gay answer ;)
and the rest of my questions?and why people always notice the stupidest question first?

I appreciate the vote of confidence. I'd throw out the suggestion that goldendog, ozzie_c_cobblepot and bigpoison would be great candidates as well, although I'm not sure the latter would have an interest.

I can think of several people who seem like they would be good moderators- but what would they be like wielding the hammer of justice? It is quite a dilemma.

I just want to take this opportunity to deny all rumours that I have an interest in this position, even after hundreds of PM's urging me to apply.

I asked legitimate questions(some more than others). Erik is doing great job with this site....but....in areas of marketing and public relations he is having some problems. He got lucky with www.chess.com domain so there is no need for expensive advertising but he fails to communicate some important facts to his customers. Like :How is this going to work? What are moderators "powers" that separate him form rest of chess.com mortals? Who would supervise them? What happend to chess960 group stats and how is it calcuated?Cheating detection? Forum suggestions answers? etc.
Maybe it would be longterm better(for owners and customers) to hire someone as public relation "person" that would do moderator job too.(not that expensive if you ire someone form india or some other country that wages are not that high...NO INSULT MEANT TO INDIA-most of USA corporation are hiring people from outside USA for this line of work)
Volunteers are too...well imagine me as volunteer...if you are not scared of that then chess.com is doomed....and you could end up with someone like me (or that guy that says that sky is cyan and not blue)

Isn't the world ending in 2012 anyway?
This is the 2,355-th time Chess.com is officially doomed. And, yeah, the [clear noon] sky is cyan.

I think that while it's impossible for a moderator who is also a member to remain completely unbiased a set of ground rules could be established to minimize the impact. Things like having to absolve yourself from moderating a discussion that you're a part of or even certain users that you have interpersonal issues with or topics you feel strongly about would be the kinds of things that I'd think should be looked at.
As for the question of who polices the moderators, it's also a good one, and in addition to that, how do you ensure that the moderators are applying a relatively consistent set of criteria when making the decision to moderate.
For both of these I'd suggest that the creation of a moderator's group would be sufficient to communicate the framework, ground rules and general ideas from the moderators that relate to these as well as a means of policing them with respect to the ground rules (i.e. divvying up content based on known biases etc.).
All very back of the napkin, but my point being that I don't think the challenges are insurmountable.

To clear this up. shall I give along explanation to why or just a quick answer?
