I just got this message that was super suspicious and obviously fake. Here is the full message:

I CONTACTED YOU BECAUSE OF YOUR NAME Mr.  Alex Spawkle

My Dear;
I am a personal attorney to my late client. Since he and his family perished in a local plane crash here in Benin, I have done all my best to contact any of his family members for 3 years now. He has Eight Million Seven Hundred Thousand United State Dollars deposited in a Bank here in my country.
I decided to contact you so that the bank will transfer the fund to your bank  account , and I have all the document of deposit and none of his family member knows about this deposit or has tried to enquire about it till date. Your last name matches with my late client name Mr.  Alex
Spawkle, hence I solicit your cooperation to work with me to claim the funds as a next of kin, there is no risk and we will share 50/50.You can call me with this number+229 975 668 25 for more oral clarification. Waiting for your urgent reply. chamberdjikui@outlook.com
Best Regards.
Barrister  Johnson Cyrille Djikui.

Some people are so lucky...

But is it really necessary to brag about it and make the rest of us feel bad, Mr. Spawkle?

I meant here on the site and I assumed you meant messages. Report it and don't delete it until staff have had a chance to do something.

Sorry, I deleted the message before I saw your advice. Maybe other people still have their message?

Martin_Stahl

You still might open a ticket.

Anyone can use "Inspect element" to edit the messages. They're not very credible.

crystal,

I have sent you a screenshot by pm.

obviously the same nigerian guy is "spamming" many of us with redundant and fraudulent posts...

thegreat_patzer

I wrote back (just as confession)

I couldn't resist.  if nothing comes from administration- I wonder.  are these guys going to read and respond to stuff?

or is the essence of their trick, to look for someone is truly gullible enough to be a possible mark.  and ignore people who are obviously not scammed...

my forum posts, alone should be enough to tip them off, that I think they are being very silly.   but in the case of "dear mr patzer"  the very assumption of my name is incredibly.... dumb.

even for a nigerian scam guy.  you'd assume they would figure out, first, Who I am (its not really heard)- and then make something ridiculous but possible.

if they are THAT dumb to get my name wrong, maybe I will get responses.  assuming that don't get booted out of the CC system.  like in the next 30 minutes...

The Barrister,  Johnson Cyrille Djikui,  has been disbarred and is now unable to message anyone.

thegreat_patzer

cue the song, "another one bites the dust"

thanks, Crystal.  obviously not many were fooled but... you can't mess around with the website like that-

scams are not what chess.com is about.
