Tactics Trainer - iPhone App

I've noticed that when I play Tactics Trainer on my iPhone that my rating generally drops and when I play on the computer it goes up. I assumed it was simply because I played faster on the phone and had a harder time seeing things.

So, last night I played three positions on my iPhone, starting with an even 1700 rating. I got all three positions right, all three gave me a small positive score, but at the end I had a 1677 rating.

Has anyone else experienced this? Frankly, I am thinking I should simply turn the rating off as I am getting in the habit of making a move without fully calculating it so I can get a better score. But something seems off in the iPhone app if my rating drops even when individual scores are going up.

Even if you get a tatic correct using the trainer you can still lose points if you took too long to find the move.

That's why I prefer chesstempo.com - it doesn't punish you for taking more time on a problem.

yottaflops: "all three gave me a small positive score" -- from original post.

I will check out chesstempo.com though -- thanks for pointing it out to me.

Surely there's an option to turn off (or adjust) the time penalty in Tactics Trainer? No?

Yes, yes there is :) I am looking at yottaflops' suggestion and liking it so far. The site does exactly what I want it to do -- keep the ratings, lose the time penalty.

I don't know about iPhone but on Android there's an app called Tactics Trainer that trains you without docking points for time. You might find it on iPhone too, if you want to keep practicing on your phone.

Thank you. I will have to look for that one as well.

Sorry, I just realized its exact name is TacticTrainer. The company is CoreGames, if that helps.

Thanks. I will look for it again :)

How do you get Tactics Trainer on iphone to let you try again after having viewed the solution. I'm probably missing something obvious, but at the moment I'm stumped.

If you are referring to TacticTrainer on iphone from CoreGames, I do not think it is possible to try again after solving.  You can view your incorrect problems / solutions in the History tab, but the next problem you solve can't be selected.

Just saw this. Thanks dtrossen.
