Nothing on the internet is free. Someone always pays for it,  whether through advertisements, data gathering and subsequent sales of that data, or via benefactors.

What you are saying is "I shouldn't have to pay for anything on the internet."

I believe he is referring to free speech and no censorship and not at all referring to free in a monetary sense.

Okay, after actually reading the post(sorry), I can confirm that I can't post in the Daily Puzzle forum even though I should be able to.

Yes, it's usually wise and considerate to actually read what's being said and look into the situation before attacking people.

Maybe, but based on previous posts and content I believe free from a monetary sense was meant.

Oh, I can post there, just that the notice shows in both.

I just double checked and there isn't a reply box. Looks they broke something in their fix.

Posts in other forums you mean? In that case you know more than me and that would motivate your assumption. I don't keep up with the forums, admittedly. But now I've been getting mixed messages because Wan said premium couldn't post either. But you said you could?

Again, it's strange to me that you as a premium members would have a banner with a link to purchase premium membership if you already have it. Hence my confusion initially.

Oh, you replied while I was writing. I'm also thinking it's possible that they intentionally blocked all posts there. So that only the Dailypuzzle account can post there.

I have a premium accout yet it wouldn't let me post. Not that I wanted to though.

Martin_Stahl

The message could cause confusion if the intention is to prevent any posting. If that is the case, hopefully they will update that message at some point to something more appropriate.

Really Draconian, but then again, you can play chess whenever you want for free here so I'd say sshh to all the negatives. And anyway, it was a 34 braincellsleft type of thing, that whole page. I don't believe that money increases brainc's, though, but maybe if you pay to play you won't fp all over that specific thread all night all day.

Martin_Stahl

It may be a little draconian but I know in the past people have exploited a bug that allowed posting before the puzzle and there have been other topics created that were not by the site.

Maybe this was easier than rooting out the bug and maybe it will change after v3 is the only version being supported.

I agree that they should do this. But overall this thing seems so strangely handled. The misleading premium only message notwithstanding, there's the fact that it happened in the middle of the day, halfway through today's puzzle's lifetime. Also that it happened so suddenly with no official statement. And I mean the puzzle has been a thing for several years. Since I made my account and many years before that, and I don't think anything similar to this has ever happened before. Amazing.

Maybe we'll have more info when tomorrow's puzzle pops up.

Depending on what your point is, and what your stance on the matter is, I can interpret it in several different ways. At best I can guess, really.

There is a small chance - unless anyone who knows will correct me - that they didn't mean to do this, and only wanted to stop non-premiums from posting new forums in the daily puzzle section.  Just because of something crystalmoon said last week.

That's plausible, but also disheartening inasmuch as it means they were clumsy enough to have made such a mistake, and inattentive enough to have failed to correct it for this long and counting.

This reminds me of TANSTAAFL (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch) a basic concept in economics, named for the city of Tanstaafl, Netherlands, which is considered the birthplace of modern economic thinking.

Will it be fixed soon?

THE MYSTERY CONTINUES! So, long after closing posting, staff post on the puzzle. So obviously they are aware of the situation. Why make such a simple post, though? My guess is that it is to ensure that, although members can't post, staff can. Since the daily puzzle account is also part of staff, my guess is that this was to make sure they hadn't blocked the posting of the actual puzzle. Interesting. If this is true, this may be the end, not just of funposting, but posting at all!
