Yes! We are the sane ones.
Indubitably. Now where are my scuba fins?

I think the assumption is false. I have seen 1400 players who had memorized 20+ moves of several openings, and I recently saw a game where h4 in an english was played as a novelty on move 7 by a 2700+ player.
I have played with people with blitz ratings around 1000-1200 that followed theory for more than 8 moves. But then, their online chess ratings were around 1400-1600, so they probably have experience with their openings in online chess and got them memorized.

Hehe nah we weren't fighting...I hope btickler doesn't think as such! I'm just as likely to argue with a friend as I am with an enemy

Agreed :). No animosity present in that last discussion...
I now cheat like the rest of you, so I rejoined chess.com. Correction: User Guide to GE is on post #336.
Something caught my eye early on. I agree the use of opening databases is annoying in vote chess. I joined some vote chess matches to learn what stonger players might think in a given position and to learn about the ideas of certain moves. What I got in many cases was just something like: "Let's pick this move. It has a high winning percentage. 'insert screenshot of database'". Therefore it's useless for me to join any further vote chess matches because I see vote chess as learning tool. Copy some GM move I can do by myself. Similar I chose also not to use a DB in my correspondence games because by desisting from a move I thought about and seems to be bad, would not teach me.
Hi peter,
I agree with you. i did not realize that this was allowed until i played in a tournament and everyone was doing great master level openings. I checked the data base and did moves that were not in there and it helped. this is why most people that have brilliant openings suck at the end game. Im thinking there are no cheats in 960 cause I win alot in there.
thanks, Dog

A. It's not cheating in daily chess or votechess, read the thread and you will know this
B. Don't bump threads from 4-5 years ago unless you have something worthwhile to add
boy did I hit a nerve tickle me not. I know it is allowed. I never said it was cheating. peter made a great post so i commented my worthwhile perspective. why are u reading old posts yourself
DO YOU REALIZE THAT YOUR TURN BASED OPPONENT CAN LEGALLY PLAY THE WORLD'S BEST CHESS MOVE AGAINST YOU FOR THE ENTIRE OPENING? That as long as you stay in book (which means making a good move), they can choose the most preferred move from the collection of Masters and Grandmasters since the 1800s against you? That they can choose the move knowing whether it leads to a win, loss, or draw? And all of this is allowed by the Chess.com rules?

...because you bumped it, and now it is showing up on "most recent activity" listings? Is this a trick question? Surely you understand this...
You obviously have not read the thread. Peter's OP and his whole premise is about as far from great as posts get on this site. As for re-posting the giant red text, maybe Erik will post again to remind you of what he said about Peter's OP...
