These "spambots" are getting out of control.

Was that mean

I can't say that on here.

Well, that debate has pretty much worn itself out... I complete disbelieve it's a real issue. Either way it's completely off topic here.

I blocked a spambot today

The cure's the same either way. It'll be great when it's in place. Most likely just restricting new accounts as they do at Lichess... x number of days, x number of games played before you're allowed to do more than read in the forums, and possibly a filter of some kind for thread titles.

Agreed. This seems so simple and obvious.

It was much the same on ICC when I had a membership there, years ago.

Without some sort of provisional buffer, the forums might turn into how things were on Yahoo Chess - where spam was out of control and the site became nearly unusable ...

Hmm... not just to complain, I'm curious. There are at least a dozen spam threads on display right now, three of them that I reported an hour ago. Are there times when no moderators at all are active???

Probably. The mods are human so ... sometimes they're either sleeping or busy with their lives ...

All the more reason why they shouldn't be the first line of defense, IMO. Especially if spam accounts (and spam content) can be auto-generated.

We'd either need automated/AI mods that can catch and scrub away spam without human involvement needed - or provisional limitations for newer accounts ...

Yeah, the front page of the Chess Discussion forum is covered with spam threads right now. Reminding me a lot of Yahoo Chess when it began its spiral into oblivion ...

We need some sort of tactical spam nuke. "Too much spam on the forums? Click this button and it all gets auto-erased."

Avatar of delcai007

Not meaning simply to criticize but I can't believe this is the best they can do, even if that means using paid staff for now. I'd be embarrassed if this was my site. I'm not kidding.
