the issue here is the subjective dismissal of a club based not on any rule, but taste. i also suspect the club was deleted because it is u.s. based, and religion is overbearing in the states.

cc has been known to delete clubs for no reason at all. even when people contact support, they get a bunch of blah, blah, blah. i expect op (and the group members) will receive the same runaround.

IMO google will lose this lawsuit.  If so, then chess.com and many other websites will probably state they were forced to close other similar clubs (that have any non-chess topics except the topic of which flavor of bubble gum tastes best, which will be permitted).

you are completely missing the point of the case, which is stated in the first paragraph of the article. it is about the algorithms yt uses that lead people down a rabbit hole. that is different than cc members deciding which group to join. i don't think it's even apples to oranges, but i bet cc will continue to delete groups based purely on subjectivety and/or mood.

Many thanks to chess.com! I convinced them to re-open the Satan's club: They wrote to me: "... We've noticed a bit of hypocrisy on our end in the way that we handled this. We would allow a Christian or Muslim club to have their private club show a symbol of religion even though this is public. So we are willing to make an exception for the club avatar here for you as well. ... The club was originally taken down for that and for the use of religious imagery in the club picture.  We actually do make special exceptions so that a jewish club can have the star of david, the christian club can have the cross, etc.  So it would be a bit unfair if we didn't let you guys have pentacle/pentacult or if we made the FSM people take away their spaghetti monster... "
