Todays news from a 'moral super-power':

"Sweden to tighten asylum rules, border controls as asylum numbers soar. The Nordic country is struggling to cope with up to 190,000 asylum seekers expected  this year - a record - with some new arrivals having had to sleep rough due to a shortage of accomodation."

AND: Sort of amusing...Frown

"The 69-year-old ‘green king' of Sweden', calls for a ban on BATHS and admits he is now 'ashamed' to run one after realising how much energy they use".

A few white men just shot five people at a peaceful protest last night. http://www.mprnews.org/story/2015/11/24/fourth-precinct

Thanks for the heads-up.  That's once, any others?  Is it a pattern or a one off crime?  If a one off crime, it doesn't rigorously compare.

Also, it's a quibble but the mayor was trying to generate more fear, etc. by saying that white men enter schools & theaters to perform mass killings against random targets.  That's NOT what happened in the shootings in your link.  The targets weren't random, they were protesters that the killers had issue with.  Again, people are still dead, but the differences matter with regard to the mayor's absurd statement.

from steynonline com:

The official line from Obama and Kerry is that the world is safer than it's ever been - except for a few pockets here and there. You'll recall that, when I spoke at the Danish Parliament seven weeks ago, the US State Department issued a travel advisory warning US citizens to steer clear of me and that particular neighborhood of Copenhagen. All very specific, and leaving plenty of other places for Americans to visit. However, the State Department has now expanded its area of concern and issued a "Worldwide Travel Alert", advising Americans basically to steer clear of the entire planet until February 26th. Claudia Rosett says reassuringly that travel abroad is still safe for Americans if you can "teleport into rural New Zealand". Absent that, shelter in place for the next three months.

Correction! The first 'accusation' seems not to be true. Discovered it was a view from some 'Italian' source. Internet...puh...

'Serious' commentators think Putin is just talking tough...Undecided

I saw in another thread that Russia put their nukes on alert which made me

But seems it's just internet rumor as well --- phew :)

Nukes are always on alert, just different stages of readiness.

Yeah I guess. Not nice when they raise the level though.

An upgraded SU-24 was taken down by a AIM-9 Sidewinder heat-seeking missile, 1950s technology.

That has to be a rude surprise for the Russians and their clients.

No, I am fine honestly. I have always insulted idiots when they trot out garbage, but thank you for asking.

And for NATO as well.

It goes with membership that you don't just shoot down Russian planes like that. It's an unacceptable overreaction, I hope Obama is going to have a "friendly" chat with the Turkish PM.

The Russians were arrogant, and Obama has no balls.

No, it doesn't go with NATO membership that you let Russian military aircraft fly over your airspace repeatedly without permission.

They played chicken and were surprised to get squashed. Hopefully it will be a wake-up call and will not interfere with getting a good outcome on the ground.

Turkey needs to react if their airspace is violated, but not overreact. What you normally do - it happens all the time - is send up aircraft to escort them out and then complain to their embassador afterwards. Turkey BTW violate Greece's airspace all the time.

"A formation of Turkish fighter jets violated Greek airspace a total of 20 times on Wednesday before being chased off by Greek aircraft"

http://uk.businessinsider.com/turkish-and-greek-jets-engaged-in-dogfight-2015-7?r=US&IR=T

What Turkey just did is like a policeman executing someone for a parking violation.

I guess they ought to be kicked out of NATO for this. They won't kick them out probably because of interests etc. but in the long run you can't have a lunatic maverick in an alliance. If they want to bemuse themselves creating a conflict with Russia, they can do it on their own very well.

Off course not, but the reaction must be measured. You can't just freak out and do whatever you want.

The Russians have also violated Swedish airspace a lot, you know fly in and out. It's on the level of provocation and showing muscles and such, so it should answered by the same kind of stuff. Like sailing into their sea with a warship.

Right, you used your friend's death to get sympathy from me. That's pretty low.
