The difference is not in question, chessdude; what is in question is whether they are necessarily exclusive characteristics in a single being. Let's take an example dear to these forums: Fischer. Guy was unquestionably a chess genius, right? Yet, he wholeheartedky believed in not one, but two global conspiracies that directly impacted on him; the Soviets, and the Jews. In that sense, he was a total idiot.
Van Gogh had a genius for aesthetics, but he cut off his own ear, and thought it would be a good idea to share a house with Gaugin. Also, idiot.
You are making the fallacious assumption that one single trait defines a person, when humans are actually built as a mass of contradictions, and each of our personalities is subject to change according to context. I would characterise myself as occasional smart guy, and usual cheerful idiot.
