Tournament Rules

I just entered my first couple of chess.com tournaments.  I'm not able to determine the tournament rules.  It looks like there is an initial round and then top players advance to the next round, but I can't figure out how many advance.  Also, in round 1, how many games do you play against each player in your group.  Is there a standard or does it vary by tournament?  If the latter, where can I find that information?

The link in #3 leads to all the help articles on tourneys; my guess is @AClearSky thought the link didn't really go to an answer.

 I was able to find what I needed in the article on how tournaments work.
