Unfair checkmate hint?

Sort:

Higher rated players should know it's checkmate, so no problem.

Sorry for that mistake.

Well, for me it doesn't matter if it is chckmt or not because I almost never chckmt anyone. :)

How can you checkmate your opponent and not know? Its checkmate!!! haha. You should know that the next move you make will win...

Well, I don't much care what any of you have said really (unless of course you agree with me).

I do think that the # sign shouldn't show until you submit the move...

kco

what about the 'check' sign ? they shouldn't appear as well.

Ubik42

Also, if you move 1. e4, a note should pop up and say "1. d4 is really the best move."

AndyClifton

No no no, you don't understand, kco!  Check is something that only your opponent has to worry about.

And Ubik, let's not drag the chess.com computer's analysis into this.

"I am just trolling you" took less time to type, you know ?

Okay, if snakesbelly were reading this, he'd start a forum thread to abolish '#'.

I just noticed that in turn-based play when you make a checkmating move (but before you hit the SUBMIT button), the # sign comes up on the moves record.

Can't this be construed as giving that player a hint?

Yes, it can.  But since the rest show up it would be a hint if it didn't show on onle one.  By the way there's another thread on this, pretty old so probably dead.

Hope that helps Andy.

The rest show up? I will have to check this. That would be impressive.

What ? With the premium mebership you do not have the winning line that pops up after your opponent's first move ?

And here I thought it had something to do with Twitter.

I really wanted to see what snakesbelly would do now. Laughing

Ive had games in which I was moving around in analyse when all of a sudden I was like: hey waiddaaaaminute, thats mate! Did not really check out "the net" or anything, just simple 2 move combinations to see what would work out, and there it was: mate :D

I am dedicated to the cause, hence willing to put in that extra effort.

It might, were I able to fathom it.

There are probably positions where I would miss a mate in one if not warned.
