Profanity is profanity and will be removed.  Chess.com is a website for all ages so profanity, pornography, talk about drugs, etc. is not allowed.

but flame wars are fine it seems. and profanity with dollar symbols and asterisks.

Yup, also user bashing, as long as you don't use the naughty words.

sound like you are trying to start one.

Neither of those are acceptable.  Flame wars may result in a lock on the thread or a complete removal of the thread and actions against the accounts participating in the flame war while profanity with dollar symbols and asterisks are treated the same as profanity.  I'm allowing the use of that kind of profanity on this thread as it's being used to discuss the use of profanity on the site (although that is no excuse to use it excessively here as it may be removed).

No, abuse directed at other users isn't tolerated.  Again, if something like this is happening then please contact a moderator.

The current way of reporting is too much of a hassle, unless a minor is the victim.

They should have included a report button for each comment, or up/down vote for each comment, a very long time ago.

the report button can be abuse too easily.

Sorry about that :(

I think chess.com version 3 isn't too far off (you can actually try it now by clicking "Try the new Chess.com!" at the bottom of the page)--hopefully it has better reporting features.  Otherwise just contact a moderator and we'll take a look at it ASAP.

Hence I am a great fan of the up/down vote for each comment. A good example probably everyone knows is Reddit.

A downvoted comment still exists--it's only removed when it has been reported (which triggers a notification to moderators) and a mod removes it.  I'm a reddit mod too :P

So you know how convenient that is. (ab)Use your mod powers to convince chess.com staff ;)

lol, that's on the developers, although I'd love to get a say in what features get added!  I haven't messed with v3 too much (the last time I looked they hadn't implimented moderature features in it yet) so hopefully there's something like that there.

What defines a flame war?  Sorry, just not up on some forum terms.

Avatar of MortalWombat

Pretty much just a really heated argument between two or more people.  They tend to snowball out of control big time and are a huge pain to manage so threads with flame wars usually either get locked or participating users get muted.

Oh I can't wait for useless threads popping up just to say vote for my thread overhere.

I said in chat on chess.com/tv that the celtics suck, which is simply an opinion and my comment was removed I believe by adamredsox. Then I said the mod was being abusive and I was muted for 60 minutes. I do not think that is fair at all.. My comment shouldnt be removed in the first place, the mod said I was being mean(adamredsox) but I didnt say anything mean I just spoke my opinion.

It really is a big thing to just mute somebody for 1 hour. Im also a diamond member and it simply is not fair in the first place to use your power in that way..

First, your status as a diamond member doesn't mean jack to anyone. You don't have any more rights to be more rude because you are a premium. Second, mods always have a good reason to mute/ban. If they don't they wouldn't be a mod

He means people soliciting up-votes for their comments. We'll probably also get "Can you believe how many + votes that guy's comment has?!" threads too. Laughing
