OK Erik, You've talked me into a paid membership. I owe this site a great deal and haven't bought a membership because I've been too scatter brained the last three months.

;) you don't have to wait for the new updates, you will lose nothing by subscribing today. just pull out that credit card and go! it takes 30 seconds and you'll be so happy you did.

So let's get this straight, as gold members, we lose some of the perks we already have and gain the ability to buy them back at a cheaper cost? What are the new features that non-platinum and non-diamond gain that compensate for the loses?

gumpty
you aren't a gold member?
Apoapsis

Ummm... I'm confused... If Platinum drops $50, won't it be the same as a Gold price, but more benefits? Money mouth

you don't lose any perks, but one of them will be slightly limited (a fixed number of tactics trainer problems per 24 hours, but far more than most people do in any given day).

i can't say yet what those new features are, but they will more than make up for it :)

The_Pitts

Just out of curiosity what percentage of people exceed the new limit on tactics trainer?

DonaldLL

this change makes the diamond membership more appealing to me... you got my vote Erik!

This sounds great.  I asked for dough for a Platinum membership for christmas.  With these changes, looks like I'll  probably toss in a few bucks of my own and get a year of diamond!!!

I need to make sure I have this right.  If I join today for a Lifetime membership, I will have the full benefits of the site including new features added later, without ever being charged again?  If so, sign me up!

That's how I feel too, unfortunately I don't have that kind of dough.

Yeah, I'm seriously considering this...unlimited chess mentor, unlimited diamond for life....really considering it.

generally sounds good, the 'gift' membership has done me no good. (at least I have found no use for it yet.)

you could give it to me :P seriously, you could.

Thanks Erik, I love this site. You just keep making it better and better.

TheIronDuke

Oof.  The main reason I bought a gold membership is because I wanted unlimited tactics trainer.  I think I'm one of those heavy users, because I don't use it all the time, but when I do I binge and do a ton of 'em.  We don't keep our unlimited tactics trainer for the year we paid for do we?

Here are the essential changes:

Gold (and former silver) members will get a slightly limited # of tactics trainer problems per 24 hour period

All accounts will be automatically and seamlessly transitioned. Nobody will lose any money or value .

These two statements are contradictory.

I am not sure, if the tactics trainer limit is going to affect me. Keeping my fingers crossed Sealed

Me too

Can't wait to see the 2 new HUGE features to the site.  This is already the best chess site by miles.

Chess.com is already an incredible value, no matter your level of membership.  I have absolutely no doubt that the upcoming changes will positively affect everyone.

Thank you Erik, and the rest of the staff, for all you do to make chess.com such an amazing site.

God

Seems if you just left in the unlimited tactics trainer for gold members everyone would be happy.

I know I would, that was the only reason I purchased gold.

erik

i understand that some people purchased gold for unlimited tactics, but i think you will find the tactics number fair and the new features will add an equal or greater value.

unfortunately we can't allow unlimited tactics for those who already bought gold. if we were to do that then what would prevent us from saying "you bought gold last week, but you can't access the gold features we launched this week - you'll have to pay more." you can expect to get an ever-increasing number of features and benefits with your membership without having to pay more.

this is a one-time change to memberships that we have thought a lot about. we are trying to make it easier for people to understand and afford memberships. gold is for people who want the extra benefits but aren't the highest-level power users. platinum is for power users. diamond is for those who are really making an extra effort to quickly improve their game with Chess Mentor.

i'm not saying that nobody is going to be upset about this change, but we really try our best to provide an amazing value for the money. if you find that you really are a power tactics trainer user than the new platinum or diamond memberships will probably appeal to you. you also have a 30-day money-back guarantee.

thanks for being patient with us while we go through this change.
