Upcoming Changes to Chess.com Memberships

I REALLY hate the chatter on live chess lately
racist or politics or animal rights
and vegi food
sick and tired
no one talks chess
??????????

We are going to implement chat channels in Live Chess in the first quarter of 2009. Then we will also have premium-only channels. It should be helpful for some problems.

I dont really care that much, but...
...erik said that there would be two HUGE new things and also the membership changes before the new year and Im jut wondering where are they at?

He didn't say *which* new year!

I perceive a corporate change within the Chess.com.
Don Erik could be on the verge of selling his baby (Chess.com) for lots and lots of dough.
All the power to him. Chess.com is unquestionably an upstanding product.

nope :) just trying to make things simpler.
Hi Erik,
I only read the first five pages of this discussion, but I want to agree with an earlier post about keeping promises. I signed up for Gold some time ago thinking that it meant unlimited TT. Now, you are saying the equivalent of, "actually here's a better deal, take it." You don't seem to be giving me any choice in the matter, which is, frankly, illegal. I do see that your deal actually may be better, and I do not really think that you are trying to cheat me, but that doesn't change the fundamental principle of what you are doing. If you make this change to my membership without giving me a choice, how can I ever trust again that you won't make another such change? I was thinking about paying for a lifetime membership a month or so ago, and now I'm glad that I didn't: what if next year you decide that diamond members will only have access to 10 TT problems per week, but that you'll HUGELY make up for it by providing us with unlimited live games against GMs? Clearly live games against GMs would be hugely valuable... but what if I wanted my tactics problems? You can't change the agreement just because you're sure your new idea is better.
I really appreciate that you are keeping up with this thread and all of this. I'm sure it's stressful for you. But a lot of us have paid you in real money and now you owe us what you said you would give us, and it's simply not up to you to decide that we should be happy with something else. Again, in this case I agree with you and I think the new deal will be better for me, but that's just not the point at all. You have to give me the option to accept your offer.
In a couple of posts, you ask, "well what should I do then, charge people for the new deal?" and I see what you're saying. But I think what you should do is put a big button on Gold members' home page saying, "click here to upgrade, getting these new benefits and losing this old benefit." Then I can say, "Yes, Erik, this new deal is better and I agree to a change in what we said earlier." Or, I can say, "no, actually, I really only wanted what we talked about before, but thanks anyway."
Anything less is immoral and (I think) illegal.
Thanks again for your time!

rileyriley Now, you are saying the equivalent of, "actually here's a better deal, take it."
chess.com agreed to provide X, and now they're providing X+Y. It's quite a stretch to call that illegal or unethical.
rileyriley> I only read the first five pages of this discussion,
Now I see! You missed page 6 where Erik says existing gold members will continue to receive unlimited tactics for the length of their original contract. If and when you renew (sign a new contract) is when changes will take effect. :)
Ah, sorry. Just wanted to make sure that opinion was heard, and didn't want to read #100 more posts. Thanks for the clarification and sorry for the repetition!
I think this change will bring more money in...
