There are two ways to layout the menu - across the top (which I think may be the default) or down the left side. I greatly prefer it on the side. Here's how you change it:

How to play key positions against a computer
Excellent idea. Now, could somebody please tell me where the $%^& is the resign button in V3 live chess? I can't find it. Either I'm blind or whoever did the interface is a fool.
If you log on with v3 and go to this page: https://www.chess.com/article/view/introducing-chess-com-version-3 , you'll read this:
However, if you go to settings/themes - https://www.chess.com/settings/themes ,
There's nothing there that I can find which would allow you to upload a custom background.
Does anyone know how to do that?
There are two elements missing when posting in forums in v3.
1. Inserting an image, there is no option for positioning the image.
2. There is no "preview comment" option.
OK, suppose you want to play a 4/6 game.
If you look at the quick-link menu, the presets are limited:
So, click on Live Chess (circled above) which will bring you, surpisingly enough, to Live Chess - where you will see menu bar:
Click on the icon of the hand on a pawn (circled above)... and this will bring to this option window:
Click on the button showing the current default time control (circled above), which will bring you to this option window:
Choose "Custom"
and type in your desired time.
Another feature missing seem to be chess960 diagrams. In v2, there is an option at "rules" where you can chose "chess960". That seem to be missing in v3 and diagrams that looks completely fine in v2, seem to not work properly with chess960 castling in v3.
edit: I have reported this and they are working on fixing chess960 support.
To play Guess the Move, you must observe a game and move the pieces in order to guess the move they will play, BTW...
Here is the board resize icon (taken from Live Chess):
Hover over this icon and two more will appear under it:
These are the "flip board" and the "Settings" icons.
Against many backgrounds they are all but invisible.
The board editor has a much different layout in v3, but the functions are similar to v2. You can insert a diagram, variations, control the move where the game display begins, etc.

The top-most theme option is Custom. When you choose that and change the background, there is an option to upload an image.
I'm going on memory here as the settings page doesn't work on my phone browser.
@batgirl, yes you can set up chess960 positions. What I was referring to though was that you cannot trigger on/off chess960 rules which makes it impossible to castle when moving the pieces. When chess960 castling is made through the PGN, the move is not made correctly either (see my previous diagram, castling is made correct in v2, but wrong in v3).
I see now. I never tried posting a 960 and just now looked and found the 960-specific rule option in v2. This seems to be a major v3 oversight.
I thought there should be a thread where people can post hints, tips, recommendations, shortcuts, etc. on how to make the most of v3.
