we used to play a game called 7 whilst passing the hours away on the street

three of us would count from 1-7 , the one who said 7 got a beating of the other two and we would go again , my mate caught me a doozie lol when I said 7 , a bag of coins whacked on my head , I saw stars for a bit lol but its what we did cos we aint got a telly to watch ,

of the three of us one got of with a polish girl working at a café nero , she had given us all a cup of black coffee one morning , so we gave her a box of chocolates in return , he got a date when he took it over to her as a thankyou , I hope they are still together , the other he got assaulted by 8 man u fans who were looking to beat someone up just cos theyd lost a champions league game but after the homeless organisations pulled their finger out and got him housed then theres me , im more used to homelessness , but even I finally got a place to call home

what gets me is how long the process can take and how it is often in some organisations financial interests , mainly homeless charities such as the salvation army , to keep folk homeless so they can then appeal for cash , or house them in hostels for exhorbitant rents , (often reaching 200 quid aweek for one room and a hot meal )

that's the trap I got caught up in , my case worker would actively sabotage any rehousing attempts I pursued until I went I don't need your help if all you do is unhelpful things , and went and looked independently of them to find the next step in my life

you may one day want to look at how much money these organisations eceive and how little is actually used for the causes they ask for donations for

Did I already mention this one?

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/gift-of-diamond-membership

@secretchesstraveller and @LetsGoPokemon both beg for it.   Then our old friend @Thug_123 who begged on another topic, promised to donate & promptly closed his account.  Does real life get more complicated?

Paid memberships are over-rated.

Did Paul Morphy have a Diamond membership? What about Tal? Fischer? His Emminence Father Roderigo Ruy Lopez de Segura?

No. So why do you people need one?

A bad workman is a tool, or something like that ...

Amazing. Your President cuts taxes for billionaires, and then cuts spending on Medicare to pay for it.

My president cuts chicken.  Please.

Do not disparage this most efficient nation.

irishwaterspaniel

I'm not disparaging the nation, I'm disparaging the idiot they voted into office. They probably did it for a joke.

My president was not voted.   She won by default.   I told you we were efficient.

🤗

Should people give 10% of their income to charities? And do you? I'm not sure for myself, borderline.

autobunny

IMHO Charity should be well thought out and not just a target to meet.  Giving a vagrant money to booze does a great disservice to everyone.   Helping one to a self sustaining lifestyle is a much greater challenge and should be what we try to achieve.

can I refer you to the classic homeless sign

"Stuff your money ,we want CHANGE!!!"

it is true a proportion of those homeless have addiction issues , and they will beg to get money to fund these things , something many don't want to fund

it is difficult to tell who is an addict who isn't , but even addicts need to eat , so buy a sandwich and perhaps a bottle of water , if you wish to be charitable .

but don't forget one thing that has been mentioned in this thread , there are enough empty properties to house the homeless 10x over ,,, this waste of this housing resource is what really demands change

write to your mp , senator , congressman etc , demand they push for a law for these properties to be used to solve this issue

that is giving the homeless real change so they can start rebuilding their lives
