Verbal abuse during blitz games is out of control on chess.com

Often during my blitz games I get a notification "your opponent wants to chat", accept or decline.

Up until recently I always declined, but I decided out of curiosity to see what people were saying to me.

I wish I had not looked.

I am shocked by the amount of verbal abuse on chess.com, it is absolutely off the charts. Everything ranging from personal attacks and insults when I blunder, and then to being called a computer cheater when I play a really strong move.  Profanity and trash talk seems to be totally out of control.

Surely I cannot be the only one having this issue. We need to make this a peaceful and safe place for everything to play and enjoy chess.

Is there anything we can do to stop this??

Just report them for abuse.

My blitz rating is 1500-1600 usually, so they see a good move and think its an engine.

But really people are just sending verbal abuse at an alarming rate for no particular reason, recently I was attacked for simply being American happy.png

why would ppl be mad? you're 1900. ppl should know what cheating looks like by that rating. theres not even that many ppl 1900.

Some know what cheating looks like but many also do not it is just as bad as higher levels

Nice game ! though it looked like you had no idea what you were doing and just suffled peices

The kings Indian is really risky at low levels even at 2000 plus I actually got checkmated by a 1300(when I was around 1800) because I played kings Indian for no reason

who cares?

they cannot harm you irl

it's just words

over time, you will learn to get used to it and that their trash-talk means nothing

honestly, I think it's funny when people trash-talk when they lose to me

They can not harm you but your feeling can unfortunately

Avatar of BigChessplayer665

I do fine it funny when people start trash talking because I blundered then hang their queen like focus on the game bozo instead of trashtalking

Avatar of The_Patszer

Just turn the chat setting off.

Yeah, their trashing talking words don't bother me, but these words can be hurtful to some sensitive people, chess.com should probably warn and then ban these people immediately.

I have an idea that's very very wrong(don't try this at home like actually tho don't lol )

Just call them bi (not gay ) and ignore them the rest of the time
