Ganguly is a unreal tactical master, a creator of brilliant short gems of demolition & dominance. He would be fantastic at fabricating creative combinations out of Carlsen's remarkable piece-play-maneuvers & a good addition to an attacking mindset. He is a great idea. Kramnik and Anand seem a natural match, ...perhaps good for restoring belief in his endgame excellence, needed to win. Kramnik is brilliant and a hard worker, who may or may not have lost his form in competition, yet appears to blend well with Anand, another deep thinker of a similar disposition. What Vishy Anand needs is a resurgence of his old endgame prowess. He trust Kramnik. Carlsen is a grinder akin to a chess engine, in search of the smallest of advantages. These are interesting choices in the thread. :)
WCC 2014 : Anand Vs Carlsen

@zenomorphy
Very well put
"Carlsen is a grinder akin to a chess engine, in search of the smallest of advantages".
Also as Natalia tweeted there is nothing like friend believing you. Kramnik may be perfect for Anand.

Sergey Karjakin : What a win against Aronian..... Superb finished with 7.5 pts. Bad luck he couldn't win against Anand. That would have been disaster for Anand.

Final result of candidate 2014 :
Vishy - 0 losses 3 wins
Sergey - 2 losses 3 wins
Kramnik - 3 losses 3 wins
Dmitry - 2 losses 2 wins
Mamedyrov - 3 losses 2 wins
Svidler - 4 losses 3 wins
Aronian - 3 losses 3 wins
Topalov - 4 losses 2 wins
Are these facts enough ?? Or still Anand has to prove himself.
Surprsingly Aronian and Topalov are at the bottom. I am sure they will bounce back in future.

Agree in_prasad. Very important point! Nothing like having a friend (especially such a special one & brilliant one) believe in you, as Natalia says.

Yup Fablehaft. At least they made this tourney exiciting.
Here is current rating.
I didn't realize Michael Adams and Anish Giri were so good! Last year when I checked Giri was ranked, like, 50-something.

What do you think guys should Anand and Carlsen play more tournament before WCC especially the one where both will have face off. I personally think both should play. That would be interesting to observe body language, mannerism etc.

I am not sure lol. But thank you for reviving my thread though. I was about to start this thread again month prior to WCC match.
So is Magnus in bad form or did he just playing mind games with Anand ???
Just like his team did by delaying signing WCC contract. Still no reasons have provided by Magnus's team for delaying contract sign up.
Note : Magnus bad form is still better than good form of other GMs

I think they start 3 PM Sochi time which is 6 am for me ! I will have to check on the games after I get up I reckon ....

Magnus in worst form is finishing +1 in super GM tournaments, which means like a 2800 TPR, which is higher than Anand's current elo. So In order for Anand to win, Carlsen would not only have to play at his worse, but Anand would also have to play better than expected.
But like everyone says, even qualified super GMs, WCC is special. You can disregard the players previous tournaments if they played badly. Anand did bad in tournaments but held on to his title. People (specifically indians...) forget that the same logic can be applied to Carlsen.
@GMVillads
Ok :-) if you feel better....
