I am in a five day move tournament

When a game has a 3 day time limit, that should be the maximum number of days for a player to make a move. I don't expect that 3 days would be the typical interval between moves. I have experienced the same. I figure they know they are going to lose and they just want to savor it.

What you expect and reality are not the same--so change your expectations.

Don't play many tournaments and just challenge players who have a good average time per move

I am on vacation now because PGE has been shutting of the electricity and it will be off for five days. . . I don't have a cell phone to play the games, i uve a Kindle Fire . . .

Sorry. I have 13 games going on . . .

I've seldom made a bad move when I wasn't hurrying.  I like to work a little on a game, then wait until the next day or so to look at it again. Often my brain finds the best move while I'm engaged in life between looking at the game. Moves sometimes come to me well away from the chess board without me knowing why. So, 3 days is barely enough time, 7 - 14 is seven better. It allows for more thinking, study, and research.

If both u and them agree to play 3 day daily, they can use how much of their 3 days as they like ya know tongue.png

I think some people probably think this is the way to do it - in a 3 day per move per game.  Suck it up, buttercup (with a smile).   I know what you're saying but life is too short - there is no answer.  Unless, hey, can you use the chat button?  Ask the person you're playing what their thoughts are?  Novel idea, or what?

Don't play 3 day games if you don't expect your opponent to take 3 days.  Depending how enthusiastic I am about chess at any given time (yes, even though I play it regularly some times I'm a lot more into it than others) I will often only play moves in my Daily games when I am about to run out of time otherwise.

The amateur psychologists will like to say people do it when they are losing and try to assign some deep meaning to it, but for me, when I do that it is just routine, whatever state the game is in.

i like opponents who treat chess like a marathon not a sprint , its one less thing to do whilst im at cc , finding a reply , i play quick in 3 day generally , but it stops me getting swamped with moves pending , which can get hectic house ,

It is very simple...

If you have a problem with people who choose to play 1 move per 3 days, don't accept games with a 3 day time limit.

I don't have problems usually with people taking all of their allotted time except when I see them online regularly and playing blitz or bullet matches all evening long instead of making a move.

If you don't want games to last that long, play shorter games...

I want to have the maximum of 3 days to think in complicated positions, as well as have some time allowance in case I'm busy with other matters or have issues accessing the internet. But I mostly make my moves within a day. I just don't understand why some people need to take 3 days even when the position is straightforward and the best move is obvious.

I think I know why. Because they have other games going on as well. If they have lets say 7 other games going on, they need to think of 7 moves. If they play the easy move in your game, then they have to think 8 moves. Maybe, for you it doesn't make sense, but for ppl that a) like to think a lot and b) don't have much time, it makes sense.

Live chess games and daily games are totally separate.  Personally I play live chess every lunch time, but I don't look at my daily games until evening, or maybe the next evening if they all have > 24 hours still; until I need to make a move.

I think it’s ok; I mean that’s why there are daily games set out for longer periods of time which are designed for people who aren’t as active as other people on here. I think it’s reasonable. If you want a quicker game, set the daily moves to one day.

I'm playing a guy, ( another site ) 3 day moves. He moved once or twice a day until he blundered a knight, then he went on vacation for 2 months, although he still logged in regularly, then took the full 3 days  per move, vacation for 2 weeks, same again, another 2 week vacation, back to 3 day moves, yawn!! he's completely lost now and I'm about to queen, twice!! and all he has are pawns, still he's dragging out every move, perhaps he's hoping i'll keel over and die before I can finish him. Just as well it's not a 14 day timescale or old age might just get me first.    frustrated.png

So childish!  The funny thing is that he is only prolonging his own misery but thinks it's worth it because he imagines you suffering.

They haven't implemented correspondence chess properly. For example 20 days for 10 moves is much better than 3 days for every move. That way you can take a break for a week if you are busy and you don't run out of time. Also vacation time should be removed completely. There is no good reason to have vacation time if you have proper time limits.
