What's the difference between an emoticon and an emoji?  Is there a difference?  If there is a difference, should I care about it?  And if so, why?  Just wondering -- feeling "uncertain," you know -- like this: 

P.S.  Did people lose interest in this forum 3 years ago because it devolved into a discussion of "Febreeze?"  Or because the inital forum topic itself didn't have nearly enough gravitas to inspire and maintain a serious intellectual discussion? 

A emoticon is a class of emojis for facial expressions. The rest are not emoticons. 🚽

Bless you!  There are so many terms in today's modern world that perplex us elders... I'm hoping I can count on you bunicula, at some later time, to explain things like "tweetering" (sic) to me.  Not now though.  I can only absorb one new piece of "information" a day.

Btw, I'd be happy to take part in some exchange of information between the generations..... in case, for example, anyone out there might want to learn the nuances of the technique of "using tinfoil to adjust the rabbit ears" on a "black and white TV."
