What Happened to the Analysis Board?

i think it's better this way, because you can't see illegal moves when you calculate things in your head or if you pull out a board to calculate things, you shouldn't be able to know if you are calculating an illegal move, because it might affect your claculations.

Chess.com made an improvement (however to some it's making it worse) to the analysis board to make it more like an actual board and not a legality checker for your moves.
But the chess.com playing board itself doesn't allow one to move out of turn or make illegal moves, so you could say that it is a "legality checker for your moves." What is the point in making the analysis board different from the playing board in that respect?

The issue isn't that it checks your move for legality.
The issue is that it checks X>1 moves down the line for legality.

It's really sad that the analysis board is starting to deteriorate in it's features. This was one of the reasons why i choose this site, now it's just a plain old board. Legality is a poor justification for removing this feature, as in game play you wont be able to make illegal moves anyway. This is certainly one improvement that is not.

This issue has been discussed quite a bit over the last week or two but I don't mind seeing it repeated. While I understand the logic behind the new approach the old approach was much preferred by me. Hopefully the sure number of discussions about this topic will convince the powers to be to offer both versions of analysis board.

Sorry if this is a repeat suggestion (as I have not re-read the entire set of posts), but could we not have a checkbox to enable a "training-mode" analysis board. Of course all calculation must be in your head OTB, but it seems like of those that need the board, at least the majority are likely using it as a tool to learn, vs. a cheat-style device....
Anyone?

I actually like it better :)
It feels more natural and even fairer. Now it's just ME, unrestricted and quickly trying out different moves and situations - not getting computer help in any way.

I like the old one and the new one so let's have the best of both worlds and have it as an option. Either check for legal moves and turns, or like an actual board. This way, we can please everyone. Some people learn different than others.

If its an option then is there going to be an option not to play opponents who are using this kind of assistance? I think its better to err on the side of having people make their own decisions...
I see what you're saying and that makes sense, but what I'm talking about is the Tactics Trainer. Sorry I should have been more explicit.

We have reverted the analysis board to use the normal chess rules by default. If you want to have an open analysis board (with no legality checking), there is a check-box to the right of the board where you have that option.

That's too bad. 'Twas great while it lasted anyway.
You should have labelled the new checkbox "Boo-boo protection."
To those who think I'm being a jerk by refusing to respect this feature even as an option, all I can say is that above all else the game should offer a level playing field. So... since there are people claiming to have lost or almost lost games because of the recent change, I guess I'd be crazy not to use a feature that I'm philosophically opposed to. Why put myself at a disadvantage, however small?
It's chess, folks. When you aren't paying attention or concentrating, you're *supposed* to lose.

I was one of the members who suggested to change the analysis board to it's current setting. Simply because sometimes I have no idea how my opponent will respond to a particular move so I just skip their move and play my next move, I do this until my I have clear advantage, then I go back figure how could my opponent prevent this, and I keep repeating the process and editing my plan until it's unstoppable( I don't do this on every move of every game, but when I do I usually win). for me the change was in improvement, but I can see why some people don't like it.
It used to be impossible to make illegal moves or move out of turn on the analysis board, but as of late it seems that you can move any piece anywhere on the board at any time. What happened?
