What is happening to chess.com? Is it the end? I have the solution.

I am just wondering, is this the end of human society? What have we become? Why am I watching so many retarded people creating accounts, posting trash threads and then closing their accounts?

Take a look at this example.

(Just in case the dude closes his account, he posted trash like this: )

When will chess.com require accounts to be at least 3 days old or so before posting? Seems like a good solution to me.

I agree with you on this one.

I am a member of a few other fora, and we never see things like this there. Those fora either have a probation period, or they must have their new account looked at by an admin before they can post. New accounts can't just start posting right away.

Who knows what chess.com owners think? This forum is the baby-sitting site of the chess world, any twelve year old can come here and post junk all day, and chess.com couldn't care less.

This is an interesting topic, even in forums that allow you to answer without further verification or probation period people dont do these things.

Im just wondering what the hell calls people to do it on this site.

I agree.  I would even go so far as to require a credit card when you sign up.  And if you spam, violate the TOS, you get charged.  Nothing horrendous, just  a charge that says you will pay for this.

That is a little too extreme, I think that leaving a probation period of 2 days or so would be enough, people do this because... I dont know, but it is rewarding to them to see their stupid spamming thread.

I dont think so.  Just a $1 "maintenance" fee.  Now if you choose to signup without a credit card, then i agree there should be a 2-3 day waiting period before you can post, chat, etc.

That way sounds better, I wonder if people would still pay 1$ to spam, hopefully not.

Signing up with a credit card would make chess.com lose like 60% of users. I think a new account should have a minimum number of games (30) and at least a month before being able to post.

Im sure some would, but at least chess.com would have some information on the perosn posting spam.  And if the info is incorrect then they have possible credit card fraud to tack on to the spamming.

I would be ok with that too.

I suggests locking down India. It's only a billion people.

30 days is too much! This thread wouldnt exist if the rule was enforced.

Probably 3 days is enough, if you create an account and wait 3 days of your life just to spam for 5 min until chess.com detects you, you have problems.

What about a spam filter that auto-mutes you if you write too many comments in a short time?

Avatar of eaguiraud

^^People sometimes write multiple Threads by accident

Avatar of eaguiraud

An IP ban should be enough for spammers.

What about shared computers?

And well, changing your IP is pretty easy.

Avatar of Martin_Stahl

IP bans may work as a temporary measure but really aren't a total solution. I guess banning hosting provider IP space probably would work but really isn't a solution for IPs owned by ISPs.

The site still does have a time limit on posting for unverfied emails. These spammers are apparently verifying their emails.

Also, this type of spam has happened before and it got locked down. Looks like they figured a way around what was done.

I thought they already had it but seems like they dont.
