What is happening to chess.com? Is it the end? I have the solution.

My point against submitting a ticket is that it is slow, they will answer you in 2-3 days saying that the mods already closed his account.

The problem is that your ticket didnt help, I dont think there is a person looking 24/7 at the tickets and sending inmediate alerts to the mods about people spammign.

So most of the time mods will close the accounts not because of your ticket but because they found the user themselves.

Or am I wrong?

Like seriously, why dont they shove their blackmagic up their...

I cant see threads on the general chess discussion, there are tons of threads like these that are hiding common sense threads.

NimzoPatzer

Seems like they are truly retarded, advertising their trash pages.

If someone knows how to bring down web pages plz contact me, I will send you their links.

That is why the spam topic was created. Faster turnaround. But mods have caught a lot without any reports.

NimzoPatzer

Yeah, just found them and made my contribution, can you suggest to the big bausses of chess.com to put in the probation period thing?

Martin_Stahl

Staff is aware of the issue. That's really all I can say.

The probation method was changed a while back so I don't know if they will decide to reimplement it or not.

We had a rash of these a couple of months ago doing much the same thing - much higher volume in a shorter space of time, though, whereas the current spate is slower; it feels like manual  spam rather than an automated one. The mods are acting on them as soon as we see them - as others have said, submitting a ticket is a bit slow and reporting in the Spam thread is probably better and quicker, although the mods are on the lookout for the accounts as soon as they are created.

We've mentioned probation periods and things like that to site management before - I've raised this latest attack with them as well. Not sure if it will lead to any changes, but for now, the spam will definitely be actioned as soon as a mod sees it, and we're actively looking out for them at the moment. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Pulpofeira

Apologies? They are unloading a ton of crap per minute and the site is wipping it at light speed.

NimzoPatzer

Their response time is fast, altough this last attack lasted a little bit more than the others.

Still, it is annoying looking at the general chess discussion section and watching only those threads, so preventing it would be better, I dont think a 3 day probation or perhaps even a 1 day probation would be so much of an inconvinience for the new users.

I believe there's currently an activation process that people have to follow to verify their e-mail before they can post content - unfortunately, there are services that provide throwaway e-mail addresses for exactly this sort of purpose, although a lot of these recent attacks are using Gmail accounts; it may be possible to report this to Google and that they might have some anti-spam processes in place. We're looking into it.

NimzoPatzer

You have to enter your e-mail and click the link handed by chess.com, thats right.

I think the fact that they are using Gmail accounts is good news, that means they dont have idea of what they are doing.

I believe Gmail doesnt allow you to use the same cellphone more than 10 times, so hopefully this means the attacks will stop.

Seriously, the mods are working as fast as they can, so why don't you cut them some slack?  They are humans, you know.

Derekjj

India with their cheap tech support, piracy,  and useless spam. Nothing new here.

NimzoPatzer

I know the mods are working as fast as they can and in fact its amazing that they are so compromised with their job, in fact, I think Im going to disable my adBlocker.

Still, preventing is better than lamenting, I think there is no need for mods to be 24/7 on the lookout for spam attacks.

wanmokewan

This is not actually as bad as it was... I don't remember how long ago.  Back then, when you made a new thread that wasn't in off-topic, it would show up in the sidebar.  Imagine all you're seeing in the sidebar is these spam threads.
