I got 5 in an epic 48 point blowout. My biggest win so far!

You have to be careful of stalemating your opponent. I used to get loads of queens at one time and stopped after I stalemated a few times. I sometimes get a queen and then a rook and maybe a knight, just for fun.

Stalemate is a stupid rule that shouldnt exist. And why would you ever promote to rooks when queens can do exactly the same thing? Thats just dumb.

The most queens you can get in a game is 9 one for your original queen and 8 promoted queens

9

It's actually 18, not 9. You can "get" nine from your opponent by capturing them all and you can acquire 9 of your own. I've never heard of it happening but it's at least possible.

Regardless of whether or not you think the rule is stupid, the rule exists and the advice is solid.

The reason people might promote to a rook instead of a queen is to avoid a stalemate. With an additional rook the game could continue on to checkmate, which is better than a stalemate.

#3 rooks are less likely to stalemate.

(In defense of stalemate itself, it makes the endgame more interesting and fun for both sides. The winning side can’t be careless, they actually have to focus and calculate, and the losing side has something to fight for instead of just shuffling their king around)
