Actually I want to know how does the bug house works. I played that format only 2 days back. I was aghast when opponent was getting randomly additional and new material and they were appearing all over. I quickly lost interest in the format in 5 minutes. It cannot be called chess.... may be until I understand the format at least...

@SacrifycedStoat, thanks for the answer. I thought it is yet another name for one more random tournament. Do you know where can we see more information about a specific tournament or a format/ variant of regular chess? That will help. Also, are there any other variants of regular chess? I have been playing Chess on and off from my childhood, but only the regular chess. Online is new to me and knowing that there are variants is even newer to me. Thanks.

A quick google suggests bughouse was invented in the 1960s. I know for certain that it was around in 1980 since I remember my brother playing it at around that time.
