Why aren’t chess.com moderators paid?

Chess.com could afford it, they just choose not to pay the moderators.

I don’t know why the mods do the work and accept this.

This is not a non profit organization, there should be no volunteers here.

Just my humble opinion.

Mods don't demand for it and as long as chess.com can get something for free, they will get it. This is business.

People shouldn’t work for free when it’s not a charity!

I don't think mods should get paid.

Then... just quit...?

Being a mod on chess.com is a privilege, NOT a right.

I can't say why there's no paid compensation of some type. However, moderators moderate when they want to and have no type of required schedule.

some mods seem to have pined for the ability to have power over others, so why would cc pay them?

i think the other, normal mods enjoy it and i believe they receive a free membership in return.

Yes, the premium features are free

If I owned this website, I would pay all the mods. That is the highest business ethic. I’m judging a little to be honest.

Me thinks they want to do it. I would

Nerd-Cat4
I think they should employ more mods, Martin is the only Mod I’ve seen, for well over a few weeks now ! 🤨
Chirpbird
Agreed. Especially with the “baby” troll problem in off topic!
Nerd-Cat4
Exactly 👍 ……well said chirpbird !
JElijahB11

Then tell cc!

Chirpbird
The mods are well aware of the troll problem. There is nothing they can do about it but ban them. This troll returns every day under other accounts it’s quite a plague on the forum.
JElijahB11

But is it your problem?

Chess.com doesn't really care about their forums. They have forums because any site like this is kind of supposed to have them, but it is really not important to them at all. It does not bring in any money and only a very small fraction of their users read (let alone write) here. Why would they spend extra money on something they would probably be happy to get rid of in the first place?
