Why can't you castle out of check?
Just keep it simple. It’s a rule, so learn it and avoid getting in that situation in future games.
That dumb rule should be removed. When I was in school we always castled out of check, the whole point of castling is to get your king to safety, right?
The inability to castle out of check/through check is the rule. It is a good rule because it makes the game more interesting. This is equivalent to asking why the knight moves in such an unusual way. or what the point or the en passant is
Â
Maybe...it's because of reaction time?
Â
Normally, the king himself would run away or his guard will interpose the attack or capture the enemy.
Â
Imagine castling were to happen. The king will first have to signal to the rook to indicate his intention to castle, since the rook will not know whether the king would wish to castle or just simply move normally (without giving any indication). But this takes time.
Â
The time taken for the rook to realise the king's intention to castle is too long. By then, the king would have been defeated by the enemy forces.
In real life, it so often happens that way.
Â
In a do-or-die situation, we have to act immediately. If a limited edition merchandise comes and the stock is very limited...
Â
...would you call your friends (i.e. castling) on video to take a look at the limited edition merchandise and watch as it gets taken away by other enthusiasts as well? Or would you immediately get the merchandise knowing that you have waited for it for long before others get their hands on the merchandise?

Isn't the point of casting to get your king to safety

...what? The point is to get your king to safety early.... not while you are being attacked. That would be so dumb to play against.
thats dumb i think it should let you get OUT of check but yes castling INTO check is a no no but the game still should let you castle OUT of check
If this was allowed we would have so many threads about people complaining their opponent got away for free since he could just castle to safety.Â

I agree, but it's irrelevant because that's not how chess worksÂ

Use the warp drive option if you don't understand basic rules of chess
