to be honest... paranoia is not a comfortable hat to wear... you're more likely to pick up a stalker walking out your door, or smiling with your neighbor, or paying your internet bill than posting a picture of yourself on a "chess" site.
maybe there is some weirdo from Antartica with a '95 processor, whose mouth waters at the notion of stalking you specifically!... but i doubt it lol
I agree that this thread turned out to be entertaining / psychotic in many forms (including 3 of myself); however, the original question was intended to be a serious one. People continue to tell me I'm paranoid, as opposed to sincerely answering the original question!

I don't think posting pictures of yourself is that creepy, but I wouldn't want to post pictures of my family. On a serious note though, if someone REALLY wants to find information about you, it isn't that hard. Facebook gets hacked every other week...

Don't get me wrong - I'm very open-minded and am not strictly against doing this. However, when you consider the fact that thousands of people (including a lot of creepy, sketchy ones) may look at your photographs and / or see your name... Well, something clicks in me to avoid any such thing. I severely doubt anything bad would happen if I posted my picture up here. But it's still very discomforting. Maybe I'm just thinking this over too much - but this is a website for CHESS, after all.
What do you guys / girls think?

Sometimes when I go outside I put a bag over my head so that creepy sketchy people won't be able to see (and thus stalk) me.
kco, I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you live in Perth, Australia, and if I go there knowing what you look like and what your name is, there's a chance that I will find you, especially if I'm a professional stalker. :)
What's creepier is all of the thousands of people you see in the streets on a daily basis know what you look like and some of them can probably guesstimate which part of the city you live in, or even follow you, you probably wouldn't notice right?

That's a risk I'm willing to take. However, I have no need to take this risk on the Internet. :)
But hey, I've done it before. I mean, the chances of being stalked on the net are waaay lower than outside of the net based on finding just one picture. Unless you're dealing with this guy. Come on, you saw that coming.
