why does it think I abandoned game?

Twice today I have been playing a an online game (iOS app) and in the middle of the game it says that I am about to forfeit because I have abandoned the game. The clock the ticks down from 20. Nothing happened to my signal. I wasn’t toggling between apps. Simply playing a game and - twice - it declares that I abandoned the game.
