I may be exaggerating, but based on some of my other forums there is alot of trolls. I would have thought that chess.com would be full of smart educated chess player, I guess I was wrong.

This topic was discussed in about three separate threads in the past week but all of them got deleted.

It is a common misconception that trolls cannot be smart and educated. In fact, being smart and educated is a great advantage for a troll, since it takes a lot of intellectual skill to master the art of trolling.

The point is that Chess attract loners and loonies. The Internet too. Then there are forums. Loonies just love forums to speak their minds. Combine all these elements. This creates trolls of unprecedented power.

Loonies are Canadian currency.

Take tens of thousands of people. Apply loneliness. Give them an Internet connection. Result: trolls. Lots and lots of trolls.

Intelligent people aren't easily entertained, or twittling of thumbs would be a good enough deterrent. The crazy thing is, even intelligent people do stupid things while bored, whether intentionally or not, all malice or humor aside...after seeing this, it isn't the trolling that concerns me, it is the rest of society...who are easily amused!!! Surprised

Remember that behind even the most vicious troll there is a tormented lonely soul looking for love

The two are not mutually exclusive conditions, some of the best and funniest trolls this site has seen are pillars of the chess community.

It's easy just ignore threads like "Boris Ivanov is a big folk hero" or obvious troll questions meant to start flame wars and arguing.

Trolls can only grow into monsters when you feed them when they aren't get the desired response they wither away and die.

Transvestites kidding on they are kids in trouble with their parents result in 99.9% of all problems.

All the remaining content on chess.com is intelligent chess-focussed stuff.
