Dear friends,

I play 10 min games with a ELO score of around 1400-1500.

I wish to discuss why there are so many people on chess.com who simply refuse to resign a losing game. I think it's a lack of respect and a waste of time to not resign when you don't have a decent chance of winning anymore. Hoping for a couple of blunders, running out of time, or a blunderdraw. It annoys the hell out of me. I block everyone who does that, but they just keep on coming. I also notice some nationalities doing this a lot more than others. I wish there was a pool with opponents that like to play respectfully.

Please also join the discussion if you are one of those douche bags Help me understand why you are doing this.

some nationalities? what does that have to do with anything? are u saying that some cultures are more toxic than others??

How do you know what nationality is anyone?

It's because of the little flag next to the username.

because they still hope to win.

Avatar of VenemousViper

It's because they hope you'll stalemate or blunder. It worked for me in one game grin.

Inconsistency from game to game, insufficient mastery of endings, miscalculation and gross blunders are common with the rating range and time control you mention. If someone wants you to prove that you are capable of winning a game with the advantage you have achieved in the limited time you have left they are entitled to do so. It is your task to EARN the respect you desire.

We're talking about an extra couple of minutes of play, and learning to cash in these positions can only improve your game.

And that's actually true LOL

I wouldn't mind being blocked by such a person. Occasionally I do play to the bitter end, which is the prerogative of the losing player, just as it's the prerogative of the winning player to win the game if s/he can.

I have no problem with players who want to play to the bitter end, but those who run the clock down in a lost position are knob heads.

You blundered the queen on move 19... How did your opponent not notice that?

No it would have been an exchange of queens (with a gain of a knight) because the pawn that would capture the queen was pinned to the white queen.

Simply because they still hope to win. We are not GM, a mistake, especially when feeling overconfident can happen, that is why.

Or even misclicks.

I'm over 1000 rapid and yet I don't know how to checkmate with bishop and knight. I once blundered a draw because of this.

I'm 1700 rapid and I don't know how to checkmate with a bishop and a knight XD

I'm 1050 at Rapid, and I just got stalemated because my opponent promoted to a queen.

This.

You're winning? Great. Close the deal. If you can't, there's clearly more for you to learn. I'm rightly annoyed with myself when I'm winning and I can't close it fast enough to prevent a draw.

What irritates me are the people who have basically won, but won't make the obvious moves, then play around unnecessarily promoting multiple pawns to bishops or something. To be clear, these people only have a couple of moves to checkmate. They are just being -icks.

Those people I stop playing, let the clock time out, then block.
