Would you change openings after 10 years

stay on course I've been playing 1.d4 since my first coulple of months of chess and when I feel like being more aggressive I'll play a gambit arising from 1.d4. As for 1.e4 I play it in blitz and casuel games. Try playing it in casuel games in tournament wis I've always played either 1.d4 or 1.Nf3 and 1.e3 a couple and have only played 1.f4 once and nothing esle.

I've thought for a while now I should freshen things up and take a break from 1.e4 after playing it for 10+ years but I can not bring myself to play ANYTHING but e4 on move 1.

Allan Stig Rasmussen says that playing either e4/d4 for a long time, and then try the other, should give a bet understanding of the game, for very high level players. He told about a friend of his, who jumped from 2400 to 2500 by playing e4 for 2 months and then back to d4 much better.

I've been an e4 player for 40 years. Sometimes, I play d4 for a few games, but always go back to the old standard. I've tried c4 and g3 a few times, but always go back to the old e4. ( Yeah, I'm kinda boring.)

Thanks for the comments. I agree with SimonSeirup, its more about getting out of my comfort zone of making 'the same old move" without really thinking about it. In that way it could sharpen my attention to the details in the opening phase of the game. either way if it inspires me to re-focus on this game, which I love so much, it will be worth it!

1 e4 is best by test!
Petrosian was a d4 player. Fischer liked e4. Right up to the top people seem to have a preference. We all have to defend against both mind you ;)

I've also been a pure 1.d4 player for over 10 years, and I plan to switch to 1.e4 soon.
I'm rated about 1950-2000 now. Ten years ago when I decided to go from playing both 1.e4 and 1.d4 to only 1.d4, I was about a 1700 player.
I think that I will be able to look at 1.e4 positions with a fresh eye now, with no baggage from when I was weaker, and that I'm stuck in such a rut with 1.d4 that it's hard to improve.
But we'll see if that's true.
Hey everyone,
For the last ten years I have been playing queens Pawn openings (1. d4... 2. c4.....) etc. I have been feeling the need to be more aggressive and set up for more tactical games instead of the positional battles that usualy arise from d4 openings. I am deeply familiar with the d4 openings and have not played 1. e4 ...for many, many years. So would you change up your openings to "freshen up" your game? or stay the course?
Thank you for your feedback!
