Okay, maybe not “high-stakes” but would you use an app to back your skill on chess.com against another opponent for like $5? Why or why not?

No, because it's impossible to prevent the other party from using an engine. Look at the extent they go during online tournaments where Carlsen, Nakamura and others to be able to tell whether they cheat or not. All those logistics will never happen in a match between two random 1400 ELO, for just $5. So how can u prevent your opponent from cheating?
