Recently I have "discovered" a terrific way to practice practical endgames. Go to the games database and play through the moves of a game between two strong players (I started with Morphy) until the progress bar shows that one player has a strong or overwhelming advantage. Then hit the little target button at the bottom of the screen and try to win the game against the computer. Note that here you will be playing the computer at its 3200 level, so one tiny slip can cost you the game. I started with a game between Morphy and Anderssen where Anderssen resigned. It still took me 5 tries to beat the computer. Obviously it's silly to try this when mate is two moves away, but it works wonderfully if the outcome is not as clear.
