Basic Mates

Here I will be talking about the basic mates. The first one is the two rooks mate.(I'm not sure if this is classified as a basic mate, but I'm doing it anyways.) The things you need to do in the two rooks mate are a) use one rook to cut the king off along the rank or the file, b) use the other rook to check and force the king back, c) when the enemy king is on the edge, bring the second rook down to mate. For example:

That was easy, wasn't it? Next we'll make life a bit harder for White by giving him a queen instead of two rooks. But first we need to learn the principles. a) use your pieces so that they can restrict the enemy king as mush as possible, b) start forcing the king back. One way to do this is to create a "box", c) set up a checkmating position.

For the rook, it's the same principles.
Now for something a little bit harder--the mate with two bishops. In the two bishops mate, the stronger side must force the enemy king to the corner before it can be mated. Now watch.
The only other basic mate is the bishop and knight mate, but I do not know that. So this is the end of our study on basic mates.
