Corresponding Squares

Hello,

I have just started looking into corresponding squares during the endgame. I had a look at wikipedia and got a taste for it, and would now like to find a good book/articles.

I've looked at my local libraries, and found books regarding basic endgames, but not really anything suitable. I also looked on amazon for a book, however, they do not state whether or not, corresponding squares feature.

 Can anyone advise?

 Thanks.

"Secrets of Pawn Endings" by Karsten Mueller is probably the best book on pawn endings out there, and he has a whole chapter dedicated to the subject. "Starting Out: Pawn Endgames" by Glenn Flear doesn't cover the concept in depth so skip that book.

You might also check out some of my free articles on pawn endings, starting from the bottom and working your way up the page. I also have some content on here.

I have both, actually.  :)

"Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual" is an excellent intermediate-advanced book on general endgame theory, my favorite in fact. It has competent coverage of pawn endings and covers some cases of correspondence.

"Secrets of Pawn Endings" by Mueller/Lamprecht is focused on pawn endgames. Its coverage of those (and corresponding squares) goes much deeper, and has more examples, diagrams, and explanatory text to make the material click.

"Endgame Preparation" by Jon Speelman has a chapter on this. Frankly, this theory is too complex for me and I cannot see me figuring it out OTB. My advice is ...... kill em in the middle game!!! :-)

Thanks for the info Mistermac. I think I like the endgame because there seems to be fresh stuff that isn't really spoken about much. Like you'll see loads of forums regarding different tactics in the middle game - lots of opening forums - but not so much endgame stuff (apart for mates in X amount of moves).

Your right though, you can work to be amazing at the endgame, but if you can't get to it without being destroyed then your skills don't get to see the light of day :)
