Which endgames are you talking about? Technical endgames with 3-5 pieces or are talking about endgame strategy with several pawns on each side + minors or rooks?
Endgame- most effective methods?

Both really. I usually end up a minor ahead(or several pawns) in the endgame and it hasn't been an issue but now that I am getting higher ranked it is certianly a crutch. I would analysis my games before hand and I knew I made several endgame mistakes but I always had material to conteract the poor move.
Gwystlo summarized it well. To start I really do just need to grasp some of the theory- I can't answer any of his questions.
Right now I suspect I would need to work on endgame strategy over technical as it seems a prereq. Somewhat like learning tactics before position ??

Imo you need to get the basics right first, ie technical endgames. Why? You need to know what technical endgame you are aiming for to make a good endgame strategic plan. In technical endgame books like Silmans there are some pointers of strategic plans aswell, like "keep your rooks active in the endgame" (one of THE most important ones).

Thanks for the excellent advice!! I guess I will probably end up getting silman's book as well. It is not too expensive and will put some good technical theory in my head as well.
Well, I severely need to work on my endgames and I am trying to come up with a plan to best cater to my needs. I am not the best at working through books but it may simply be because I have access to so many books that are above my level. Art of Attack and Nunn's chess move by move went straight over my head when I tried to read through them about a year ago however Heisman's back to basic tactics book was a big hit!
Now that I am a bit better of a chess player than I was, I was thinking of revisiting books with Silman's endgame book. The alternative would be to become a diamond member here and work on chessmentor and watch videos etc. My main concern is that I won't have the desire to push through Silman's book or that I won't gleem much from it because it is a book as opposed to another learning medium.
