Explain this endgame for me?

The winning move is Ra5. Everything else either draws or loses.
I can't understand why Ra5 wins.

GMegasDoux

Rf5 stops the King and two pawns moving forward. The Knight cant fork King and rook it can only attack one of them. The h pawn will fall after the rook is attacked by the knight. The King can move forward safely if attacked. The black king has to move away when the f pawn is pushed after the h pawn falls and the white king supports the pawns and rook. The Knight will fall if it takes anything and the pawns are connected soon to be passed.

Should have said RF5-RA5. Sorry.

Silly explanation. Rc5 also does all of that, and is a draw.

That is such a stupid explanation. Rc5 also does all of that, and is a draw.

What are you looking at the tells you Rc5 is a draw? I agree that Ra5 is better because it avoids Knight forks, but I think Rc5 still works.

Some weak a$$ engine, apparently. Yeah Rc5 and Rb5 also win. My bad on this one. Kh4 is a draw though.

According to the engine R- a5, b5, c5, and d5 all work, pretty much equally. But it's always good to keep the rook away from the knight and far enough away to safely check the king.

Laskersnephew

1.Rd5?? loses immediately to 1,,,Nxf4+ 1.Rc5, Rb5, or Ra5 all win identically
