HOW TO CHECKMATE WITH QUEEN VS PAWN ON 7TH?

Sort:
kdamato
Opponent’s pawn is on 7th rank with King hanging close.
My King is a mile away.
I keep checking, but opp. does not move away from pawn.
Looks like a draw.
Thoughts?

1e4_0-1, that is a draw because the king can go to a8! For example:

However, when White's pawn is not on the c- or f-file, it is a win for black. For example

It is worth noting that a position where the pawn is on a7 or h7 is a very easy draw for white.

So, it depends where the pawn is. If it is on c7 or f7, it is a draw, but I recommend you play on. If the pawn is on the side of the board, it will be a draw. If it's anywhere else, play on, because you will win if you know how to do it.

Hope this helps!

I know that is a draw, but I just wanted to illustrate the basic idea.

Suspiciousmovebot. Why would white not promote the pawn on the third or fifth move and get the draw?
