Capablanca: "In order to improve your game you must study the endgame before anything else; for whereas the endings can be studied and mastered by themselves, the middlegame and the opening must be studied in relation to the endgame."

So how to I study the opening/middlegame in relation to the endgame?

You simply have to study the endgame then you'll get it.

Everything that has a beginning has an end 👀.

Each opening will typically develop into a middle game common of said opening, and those midgames will in turn develop into endgames typical of those midgames. So endgames and openings are linked that way, it's a matter of causality. A seasoned player could take a look at a middle game position and predict what opening was used and what to expect in the endgame.

By prioritizing the endgame we learn to evaluate better, to recognize if our middle game is developing into a winning end or not. Every step of the way we must consider the endgame.

Most importantly perhaps is that studying the endgame teaches you advanced concepts of chess. You'll begin to see the board for the squares...
