How to win bishop vs knight end game as Bishop?

Hello everyone,

I like to know general principles when playing this end game. This is very common. If I'm knight it is easier for me because, then I put my pawns in opposite colour of the bishop and proceed from there, but here I am the bishop, so what are the principles I should follow, should I put my pawns in the same colour as my bishop. Here is one of the games like this I played and lost on time, if you like analyse this endgame but I'm more interested how to win using general principles in end games like this, as Bishop. Thank you

Hey I don't understand the response. Isn't this the same game as my mine. What are the general principles. Thanks

I just reposted it because something is wrong with the forums currently. Diagrams in the first post don't display properly on the website.

As a general rule you should have your pawns on opposite colour than your bishop (so they don't stand in the way and so you can try to win the opponents pawn). It will also be important to keep play on both wings as the Knight has shorter range.

Hey great reply. This is what I was after. See all this time I was thinking to put my pawns in same colour of my bishop so I can protect them from the knight, but I think that is counterproductive isn't it. Also I should attack both sides so knight has a headache. Great tips, Any more you like to add, thanks. Also reply to my 2 rooks vs queen end game if you have time. Thanks
