Is endgame knowledge overrated?

Hi to all!

I tend to think differently about it but……Majority of games are somehow “solved” by white or black usually well earlier than endgame. Of course, person should know basic endgames.

Imagine you are perfect in pawn or rook endgames. Even intentionally it’s quite difficult to move to precise type of endgame. You or your opponent will do their best to lose the game earlier.

It is too extreme opinion?

Idk, ur 2100 elo, u tell me. Cuz i expect a lot of close drawn position when it reaches above 2000 elo. im only 1600, ive seen them, not played them. So maybe having good endgame knowledge after 2000 elo can help. It certainly seems like an extreme opinion coming from a 2000. But i hv no place here, just telling wht i thought.

I played regularly OTB for 40 years until early 2020 and was rated 2000. I don’t think I had a non-trivial rook and pawn ending more than 2 or 3 times, though they are supposed to be very common. Maybe you have a point.
