Is this a draw or a win for Black?

White to move.

If it is a win for Black, what are the moves to force pawn promotion?

Looks like a draw to me.

looks like a draw, none of the kings can get through

It's from a game I played. It looked like a draw to me and the other guy made me a draw offer and I accepted. I thought it would just be draw by repetition otherwise. But the computer evaluates the final position as Black having a big advantage.

I'd say it's a draw.

And after checking it with the engine I was wrong.

Very interesting position.

@ extra pawns in endgame is obv an advantage for black, but if white plays without any mistakes, it should be a draw =)

I just played some of it out a couple of times and blitz speed against the computer. I took the White side and I might have just blundered each time but it does look like there is a win for Black.

I am missing a trick for White?

This is a win for black. White has to play Kf3. After black plays Kg7 white is forced to make another king move then black can play f4. Whatever white does after f4, black gets the king in front of the remaining f lawn with Kf6 and then he can walk the lawn to promotion

That's a win for Black. Sac pawn to take the opposition, done.

Missed that sac. It is a win for black.

So you declared that it is as draw without even trying the only thing that black can try? Nice.

It was just a straightforward question, there is no need for the sarcasm thank you.

as said above, do a triangulation and sac the pawn to get opposition and win

I didn’t have much time to look at the position. I had to rush to school.

i think it's a win, there's probably some tactic where you sacrifice the f-pawn

Avatar of Laskersnephew

I believe Black can use a kind of triangulation to trade his extra pawn for a winning opposition. for example: 1.Kf3 Ke7 2.Ke2 Ke6 3.Kf3 f4! 4.Kxf4 Kf6

I feel it's a LOSS for black

Avatar of mpaetz

Easy win for black. Give up the f5 pawn by advancing it to f4 when the black king is on e6 or g6, then seizing the opposition sets up one of the most basic wins in the endgame playbook.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but it's a big mistake to "feel" when you can calculate
