Can the Black King on H7 move to G6 to avoid mate since the Knight on H4 is pinned?
White’s position: Rf7, Rf8, Knight h4, K h3.
Black’s position:K h7, R h6. Disregard the following:
White’s position: RF7, Rf8,

Pinned pieces still attack/defend squares they could move to if they were not pinned and no move can be made by an a player that exposes their king to check.

So, in other words, this is Checkmate since the B K cannot move into,check despite the fact that the W knight is pinned. Right?

The simple rule is "a king can't move into check".

Here’s how to tell of its checkmate:

Are they in check?
Am I guaranteed to capture their king on the next move (even if doing so puts me in check)?

If yes-yes, it’s checkmate.
If no-yes, it’s stalemate.

Think of the common movie trope where there’s an epic sword fight. The hero is knocked to the ground defenseless and the villain stands above ready to end it all. But then the villian moves his hand from his side and it’s covered in blood revealing the fatal blow has already been struck.

This is how pinned pieces help checkmates. It looks like a loss if they move but if that ‘move’ would capture the king first, you win just in time.
