Probably he missed it. It can happen (even to Magnus) at a fast time control game.
Carlsen once got checkmated very quickly against Grischuk in a Chess960 game. ¡Grischuk delivered the checkmate by castling! Also easy to miss in a fast game.

Agreed, respect for allowing this beautiful end position.
Those who master the technical craft are allowed to add a layer of populism.
Anyway, the en passant was not the hard-to-spot move, it was the rook sac.
Magnus lost a game in an amazing way, it really is worth watching and studying this ending, mate with En Passant at any time if amazing, but against Magnus!!!
