I was reading about chess visualisation and saw this position, to which I give the book solution.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now here is what I saw

The original solution is simply faster as the king can't come back in time to get the pawn. The fastest way is the best, therefore the first solution is the best.

Yes thanks Etienne, I agree. But if the pawns weren't on the kingside, the original solution would be the only solution, that's my real point. Why have them there at all?

The position may be from a real game... that would be my guess.
