Am noob...did I handle this early queen okay

Trying to get back into chess and what got me out of it last time was all the early queen and bishop attacks. I got a few ? and ?? from the chess.com analysis, but I don't quite understand why. I mean I won so obviously I did *ok* but I want to do better. I want to shut these attacks down immediately. What could I do differently?

edit: also trying to figure out how to post a game here in the forum sorry for the link

That was a back and forth game, but overall yes I think you did great! happy.png Finding 4...d5! was especially nice.

For future reference, 3...Nf6 would be a better move than 3...f5 because it develops a piece and gets you closer to castling (opening principles) https://www.chess.com/blog/KeSetoKaiba/opening-principles-again and also because your f-pawn will be better back on f7 to help give your castle King shelter when you likely castle Kingside later. Several months ago, I made a YouTube video on why those pawn moves weaken a castled King:

Thanks for the response KeSetoKaiba. 3...Nf6 was my main consideration, which is why I took so long on that move. Ilmy thinking was, the white player would be too enticed by the free pawn of 3...f5 that he would blindly take it, allowing me to threaten the bishop and queen at the same time. Out of curiosity, at move 7, what was stopping his queen from taking my pawn at c4? He didn't take, so I immediately defended with my bishop, but I wasn't sure if I was missing something.

You're welcome happy.png As for move 7, you aren't missing anything; they are grin.png They absolutely could have recaptured on c4 with their Queen. I probably would have. Maybe they just figured it was more important to develop a new piece (Knight) with opening principles. Sometimes that is correct, but not usually by "sacrificing" material like an entire pawn.

I like how noticing they didn't take, you defend with ...Be6 next move. Don't give them the opportunity to take it anymore, they had their chance and now it is defended! wink.png

Not gonna lie, I LOVE the move 3.. f5. I'm likely going to play it in my games with Wayward/stuff. It mixes f pawn gambits against an unsound opening, and the computer rates it as pretty solid!
