should I attend local chess meets at local libraries just play some OTB no one I know plays chess and I’m a beginner I will most likely look like a fool but is it worth going or would I be wasting time attending since I’d be a beginner attending these

yes. most clubs have players who are happy to show you a few things and let you try a game .

Everyone starts off as a beginner.

Steve it’s a question of personal confidence really whether that’s appropriate for you. I had an adult student start with me 6 weeks ago and after 2 lessons he’s gone from 550-850 which probably puts him in a better place to try some local chess groups but as mentioned there’s sometimes people who are willing to help you for free at the club but not always.

I highly recommend it. Even being a beginner, you will meet people who will help you with the game. Playing OTB is fun and a good experience. Jump in happy

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I'm a well established chess teacher based in California.

I offer a FREE beginner's online workshop every Wednesday at 9:30pm PST.

I will offer to analyze your chess games which is a great way to get better. Ask me any questions. You will learn winning stratagies to win more chess games with a supportive group of other beginners.

Yes, give it a try. What have you got to lose? You’ll meet some new people and will probably have fun. Let us know how it goes! 🙂
