Attitude Adjustment

Ok. Go watch my last game. I am absolutely embarrassed about how that ended. One uncharacteristic move results in mate in two. I have been off. I can't think straight and when I lose in such unmitigated, pathetic fashion I get really discouraged and down on myself. Admittedly there are some things going on in my personal life that are affecting my mental health, but chess for me was an escape from that. I usually don't take losses so hard but recently I seem to lose more than I win. Im making blunders that are completely avoidable and somehow I walk right into them. Admittedly I don't like the daily format when playing online. Waiting 20 minutes for someone to make a move is very frustrating for me and it throws the pace of the game off for me. In person I wouldn't mind because the board is right there and I can stay focused on it. But here it's just not my thing. But I'm becoming more frustrated. I'm still lacking certain foundational aspects of the game and I just don't know what to do. I'm becoming discouraged. And I don't want that to affect my love of the game.

Any tips or advice is welcomed.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Bigfoxy90!

Losses can be painful and lack of improvement frustrating. I’d be happy to work on your chess, we can meet up in the Chess.com classroom and analyze your games, discuss chess concepts, even create some study program for you for self learning if you want. Let’s make chess fun again!

8 0-0-0 instead of 8 d4 white is winning; don't be so hard on yourself.

Easier said than done at the moment. I know I had considered castling on that move and then it took like 20 minutes or so for my opponent to make a move and I completely lost my train of thought. Not an excuse really, I should have seen it when it came time for me to move but alas, I did not. And now I feel like an idiot.
